Our Facilities
A water-based pitch in a natural amphitheatre, and a clubhouse, indoor hall, gym and padel courts on the same site.
State-of-the-art water-based astro
The EGHC pitch is a state-of-the-art water-based surface from Edelgrass. Water-based pitches are used at the Olympic Games, World Cups, Commonwealth Games and European championships. They are performance surfaces that give players young and old the best possible playing experience, and they are far better than hybrid, sand-based or 3G surfaces.
Water lubricates the pitch for quicker, smoother play and gives the ball a true, uniform roll, so players can move it with the stick without it catching. It also allows freer movement of the body, so it is kinder on knees and ankles.
A water-based pitch also reduces the risk of injury: there is much less chance of skin scrapes than on sand or hybrid surfaces.
There really is no better hockey experience. East Grinstead's ground is widely considered one of the best in the country. It sits in a natural bowl that creates a spectacular amphitheatre, with excellent shock absorption under the surface. Internationals love playing here, and so will you!

Seating & spectator facilities
The natural amphitheatre around our water-based astro is complemented by seating along the side of the pitch. It gives a great view of training and matches, and it is very popular with spectators on match days.
Next to the seating is a small outdoor bar serving soft drinks and alcohol, often with a BBQ. The area around the seating is covered with shock pads and astroturf, so youngsters (and four-legged friends) can run around close by.
Environmentally friendly LED floodlights
Our pitch is lit up beautifully in the evenings thanks to LED floodlights installed a few years ago. They focus the light on the pitch, which greatly reduces stray light and light pollution.
LED lighting also uses less power and needs fewer spare parts than traditional bulbs.
The clubhouse: food, drink & live hockey
EGHC is blessed with a wonderful clubhouse, with a fabulous bar, spacious seating areas, two large-screen TVs, free wifi and great staff. Come in from the rain and grab a coffee from our baristas (and take it back outside if you like), watch the hockey live-streamed from our pitch, or catch up with friends.
Varied menus are available for every visitor, as well as a fully licensed bar. Teams can eat together in our dining area, a few steps from the bar, which has its own large screen streaming the hockey or showing club content.
The whole space is dressed with trophies, honours and reminders of our heritage, with comfy seating throughout.
Clean, heated changing rooms with warm showers
Our changing rooms are clean, modern and in excellent condition, and they are heated. The showers are great too! We know how important it is to have a secure place to change and lock your things away while you play, with plenty of space for all that kit.
Getting ready for big matches and training sessions is easier in a clean environment. There are safe power points for hair dryers or music players and plenty of hangers for kit and clothes.
Free guest wifi
EGHC has invested in wireless technology around the pitch and made it available to all visitors. High-speed broadband lets spectators check on match action elsewhere and stay connected with family and friends. Security policies and filtering keep the risk of inappropriate content to a minimum.
Guest wifi is free at EG.
Security
Security is top of mind at EG. Cameras are mounted at key points around the ground, including the busy entrance and exit points to the pitch, and we also monitor the dug-outs beside the pitch.
In line with data protection rules, footage is kept for a limited number of days and then deleted. In many cases it helps us reduce the risk of lost property.
The indoor hall
EG Men are the most successful indoor club in the UK, with 14 national indoor titles. EG Women have six Indoor Premier League titles, including back-to-back wins in 2025 and 2026, plus a EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Cup bronze medal.
East Grinstead Hockey Club has fabulous facilities for developing indoor hockey, and the indoor hall is key to that success. It is also home to our Junior Indoor Hockey Programme.
Video technology records and streams training and matches in the hall, so players and teams can review their training drills and how well they put them into practice in matches. It is a great resource for players keen to develop their game, and for youngsters who need video of their sport for GCSE assessments.
Padel
Padel has come to East Grinstead. The top netball courts have been converted into four covered padel courts, a few paces from our water-based astro. They are fully enclosed, lit and surfaced with padel-friendly turf.
The courts are run by East Grinstead Padel and are another great way to exercise on site. They are one more addition to our fantastic multi-sport site!
East Grinstead Sports Club gym
In winter 2023/24, East Grinstead Sports Club invested heavily in new state-of-the-art gym equipment. EGSC gym members benefit from connected equipment, excellent supervision, strength & conditioning guidance and a spotless space with video and audio while they train.
Hockey Club members get special offers. With the indoor hall, sports club bar and café, sauna and changing rooms all in the same building, parents can use the facilities while their children train and play hockey.
